Book Review

Maximum Ride: School's Out - Forever

Summary:
The Angel Experiment led to genetically enhanced children who can fly and possess other non-human skills. They barely survived the lethal Erasers and learned somewhat about their origins. Max barely a teen, but as the oldest leads her “family”, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, and little Angel as they fly south seeking their biological parents. They know predators, including two legged suits, will want to either kill them or recapture them and send them to the dreaded school, but flying in tandem like a flock of birds, they begin their quest anyway.
However, the Angels soon confront a type of Eraser like none before as this one flies like them. Worse the FBI chases after the sextet. Finally with the evil Erasers and the bird-brained Feds pursuing them, a new more dangerous enemy surfaces, Max II, whose goal in life is to be Max I.
The second Angels thriller is an exhilarating thriller starring three teens and three preadolescents sticking together while eluding Erasers, FBI suits, school, and a clone. The story line is driven by the magnificent six though in truth even six years old Angel acts and talks adult-like during a crisis, which is much of the plot. No one will care (except inane reviewers needing a life) as once again James Patterson soars with his latest suspense filled science fiction thriller.

The Dragon Conspiracy

Summary:
In 1910 England, despondent fourteen years old James Kinghorn escapes from Drinkett College that he attends as a student to walk the sand dunes when he notices the commemorative looking “Sea Arch”. He walks through it and finds he has entered a portal that leaves him in a world where magic is real, Eldaterra. He quickly flees a deadly dragon spider and the undead with the help of the twin dwarves Brothers Bandamire, and a talking dog and chatty bear as dragons disguised as humans and Kaiser Wilhelm’s forces set in motion plans to defeat humans in both planes. He soon finds ties to his grandfather and serial murders fifteen years earlier.
In 1895 British Chief Inspector Corrick and Foreign Office civil servant Harrington investigate a series of grisly murders. The victims are pregnant women pregnant, but their fetuses are reptilian. They struggle with the serial murder case that makes no sense for the answer lies in Eldaterra and a patient enemy establishing an axis in two worlds.
The first book of The World of Eldaterra saga is an interesting historical fantasy that stars a young hero struggling to understand what is going on in spite of the overly verbose explanations provided by the Brothers Bandamire. The story line is action-packed as James and his new allies fight the evil alliance in between loquacious discussions on what is going on. Still the ties to history bring a semblance of reality to WWI fought on another front in an alternate realm.

Book Review

The Pirate of Panther Bay

Summary:
In this story, the captain of the Marée Rouge is an eighteen-year-old woman who takes a young Spanish noble prisoner six months after her lover has been murdered.
Because of this lovelorn central character the book sometimes seems more romantic novel than adventure yarn, but the author puts plenty of zip into the action sequences. Here he masterfully captures a sword fight, building tension it seems hard to believe possible short of seeing it on a huge movie screen
There's fine description plus conspiracies and colorful characters galore, but what I liked best was the irony of the story. In the first half Isabella, herself a former Creole slave, holds the young Spanish man prisoner. In the following fifty pages she becomes his prisoner, exploring some interesting psychological implications about control in male female relationships. We are at sea, literally and figuratively, and like the green waves, this adventure tale suggests multiple depths. But not to worry, there is also the requisite, rousing pirate-finale. Will Isabella fulfill her mother's strange prophecy? Will the two enemies somehow unite? And what about the infamous Yellow Jacket? "
Its a great book for anybody who likes reading about a pirate and particularly a unique one (I mean, have you ever heard of a female pirate captain?). I believe most people who enjoy this book, I sure did.

The Great Tree of Avalon: The Eternal Flame

Sumarry
It is so hard to believe that you can make a difference when the odds seem so overwhelming. And yet Elli, Tamwyn, and Scree did just that in this finale to The Great Tree of Avalon series. They set off in separate directions to follow their hearts and do what is right not only for their people but for Avalon. They encounter surprises and face great personal challenges all along the way to the final battle.
This is the series to read for anyone who believes that what they do doesn'¦t make a difference. Every kindness, every contact can make a difference when the going gets tough. And, sometimes the smallest creature can make the biggest impact when the battle ensues.
The author is masterful at weaving Elli, Tamwyn and Scree's stories into the fabric that will eventually pull together for the mighty battle against evil. You want to believe that a world like this can exist where each creature, great and small, has an important place and role in the overall well being of that world. Maybe some day that can happen here.

Book Review 1

The book I am reviewing is not actually a new book. I never really intended to do much reading, but i just picked up this book at a random bookstore.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Summary:
Harry Potter, now starting his sixth year at Hogwarts is now known as the Chosen One, widely publicised as one who would ultimately defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort. The start of this book abruptly starts as the Minister for Magic meets the Prime Minister of the Muggles (non-magic people) to explain why his country is suffering so much sorrow.
Continuing from the previous book, Harry Potter received his OWL results and manged to get a favourable score to get the subjects he wants. He enters school and experiences a really exhausting experience when the teachers pile them up with so much homework.
Of course, the story is more than just that. Dumbledore now takes Harry under his wing and teaches him of Voldemorts path and eventually he ask Harry to get a memory from the new teacher, Professor Slughorn.
Harry gets the memory after much persuasion and much difficulty and when Harry and Dumbledore views it, they find out Voldemort has created Horcruxes, magical items in which he has hidden his soul in, so taht even if his mortal body dies, he will not die as his soul is still alive somewhere.
Harry and Dumbledore discusses of what and where the Horcruxes may be and discover some surprising discoveries. Dumbledore has believed what he thinks to be a Horcrux and invites Harry along. The protection to the Horcrux is very powerful and Dumbledore is seriously weakened and almost killed. When they finally get the Horcrux, Harry apparates them back to Hogwarts and they find that Hogwarts have been infiltrated. In Dumbledores' weakened state, in spite of his weakness, he protests to go to Hogwarts and find that Death Eaters have entered Hogwarts. Draco appears and threatens to kill Dumbeldore.
In the end, Snape kills Dumbledore and Harry, in his fury, chases him and vows revenge. Unfortunately, he does not manage to do so and Snape escapes.
Overall, this books title does not really encompasses thes story itself. This is a good book but really if you prefer books with more hack and slash action, this book is not for you.
